Investigation of the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of aluminum matrix composites reinforced with boron carbide (B4C) particles at different volume fractions
Author(s): Mohamed H and Radwan A
Abstract: This study examines the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics of aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) reinforced with boron carbide (B4C) particles at volume fractions of 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%. Through a combination of powder metallurgy and sintering, we fabricated the composites and characterized them using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), tensile testing, and hardness measurements. The results reveal significant enhancements in mechanical properties with increasing B4C content, alongside notable changes in the microstructure that contribute to the observed performance.
