Abstract: This study undertakes a critical and meticulous experimental and numerical analysis of a hybrid solar thermal system, which has been proposed as a means of efficiently converting solar radiation energy into useful mechanical and thermal energy. The hybrid system, as proposed in this study, comprises a flat plate solar collector, a counter-flow heat exchanger, and a micro-turbine unit, which work in tandem to enhance the efficiency of energy use in a range of different environmental and working conditions. The performance of the system has been determined through energy and exergy analysis, which considers solar irradiance, mass flow rate, and ambient temperature. The results obtained in the study reveal that the enhancement of heat transfer characteristics and working conditions has a significant influence on system performance, which can reach a maximum of 38%. The study also reveals that the proper control of mass flow rate can enhance thermal energy absorption and exergy efficiency in the system. Hybrid configuration presents more flexibility in dealing with changing solar conditions than traditional configurations. These results show the potential of hybrid solar thermal systems as a solution to decentralized and sustainable energy applications in regions with high solar irradiance.
